The Department of Epidemiology is seeking a part-time OPS Data Scientist to work up to 30 hours per week on an NIH-funded grant study. The Department of Epidemiology's Data Intelligence Systems Lab (DISL) is led by Dr. Mattia Prosperi, carrying out research in bioinformatics, machine learning, and data science focused on epidemiology and public health (https://epidemiology.phhp.ufl.edu/research/disl/). DISL is looking to hire an OPS data scientist to develop statistical methods, algorithms, and software to model infections and drug resistance by analyzing large-scale pathogen data, in collaboration with the College of Medicine, the Emerging Pathogens Institute (EPI), the Department of Computer Information Science and Engineering and the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.

$25.00 - $30.00 per hour, commensurate with education, skills, and experience

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred applicants should have or be close to completing a Master in computer science or related quantitative field, being proficient in one of the following, but not necessarily both: (a) statistics/machine learning with Python/R, and database systems; (b) low-level programming C++, with skills in algorithms/data structures optimization, especially for strings and discrete domains. Prior experience with bio-health informatics projects is desirable.
